The novel is about a woman who lives in an almost border zone, where there's violence just kind of happening in the background. She and her family are protestants, so they have a sort of tolerance that's extended to them because of their connections to the sort of imperial family. The story hints at some proto-witch hunts or inquisitionis it's essentially a tolerated thing. It all plays into this idea that i've been ive been jug juggling in and trying to make sense of in the last few years.
