Coral reefs: a biological symphony being silenced

The Wild with Chris Morgan

CHAPTER

Fishing by Hearing the Sound of Coral Reefs

Fish are able to detect where the reefs are, even make judgments about the habitat quality of those reefs. Tim wondered if there was potential for sound to be used as part of this rebuilding effort. If you could advertise that restored habitat using sound, might you get more fish coming back? It's an idea that's been deployed before with sea bird dummies on restored cliff side habitat and then played the sound of sea birds to attract more sea birds.
