As a theoretical physicist, you have no idea what you're actually going to do for the next three years. So very often you end up kind of lying. If there's someone who has clearly been doing super good work for over a decade, why are you putting them through this pretending that they're going to do something that they've already done or they're just guessing at? It's just a complete waste of very, very, very valuable resources in my mind.
