We Need a National Divorce
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene called for the United States to be separated by red and blue states this week in an effort to also shrink the federal government. This idea has been bubbling on the right for several years championed by conservative writers Dave Ryobi and Michael Malice, but there is not a lot of writing about exactly how it would work. The seriousness of these issues and their daunting solutions are meant to prove that the breakup of the United States will always be an impossibility. But that's not right. National divorce or some other more tragic chaotic outcome won't be impossible forever.
