Aquinas - The Virtue of Rightly Ordained Desire
In the summa aquinas describes how the vice of pride disorients our awareness of reality. Pride indirectly keeps the mind from being open to truth, intellectually or speculatively,. But pride directly impedes our affective knowledge of truth. Aquinas also discusses other vices that corrupt reason, especially lust which impedes contemplate crowding out the refined pleasures of the intellect with the baser pleasures of the body. Another distinctive vice clouds our knowledge of god, intellectual intemperance, or curiosity - a disorder in our desire for knowledge.
