Irenaeus, who died round about 200. He says that the second Linus follows Peter, then comes Anacletus and after him in the bronze position, third place, Clement. Talion, who died about 20 years after Irenaeus, so they would have been roughly contemporary. Says Clement was second after Peter. So there's a clear clash of people who lived round about the same time. And now much, much later, Jerome the Grumpy Saint. Mm-hmm. It almost seems like an East-West thing.
