The Importance of Reading in the Post Pandemic Era
A report shows that just 33% of fourth grade students performed at or above the proficient level on the reading assessment in 2022. That's 2 percentage points lower than it was in 2019. More significantly, 37% of fourth graders performed below the basic level in 2022. There is this whole new way of teaching kids to read that I wasn't aware of until I began digging into this. It's called balanced literacy. No one's ever going to guess that that wah-wah could be a snickerdoodle.
