In the United States, one of the things that we're dealing with right now is attacks on educators and attempts to obscure history. And there's a very specific reason for that: These power structures that require intentional inequality seek to divide us while also obscuring the exploitation that has taken place. So as a result, it began with the Christians in ancient Rome. Now we're seeing it put on gay and trans communities, people of color, the poor and women. We need to recognize it as a canary in the coal mine situation.
