The Importance of Free Speech in the American Constitution
Free speech is about the government's relationship with citizens, not for instance what a restaurant can do when it kicks its patrons out. So if a private business says, you know, you can't say, I don't know racist things, or you're going to have to leave this business like we're not going to do business with this, that's not free speech. That has nothing to do with free speech in a constitutional sense, I would argue. It's really an issue between kind of the citizen and government, right? The First Amendment protects the U.S. against such censorship. And so there's another aspect of free speech which is, can I express myself in civic society
