Is There a Terror in Mathematics?

When one talks about mathematics, or the hard sciences, but let's stick to mathematics, there is this reaction that you can almost see the fearor in the terror. I suspect if you could wire them up, you would discover serious physiological signs of terror. Yes, i did once suggest that we should be asking for danger money to do mathematics, because we're doing something that everybody else is scared of. But that's just e real sociological problem.
