Skateboards - The Greatest Hit of All Time
Tens of millions were sold, but they didn't get much safer. The biggest problem was the metal wheels. If you went over even just a tiny pebble, your wheels might stop, but you would go flying off your board. Manufacturers tried to fix the problem by switching to clay wheels. They kindo rode better, but they broke apart really quick. And to make matters worse, scape boarding was starting to have an image problem. In may 19 65, a popular magazine called life published a cover story about the craze and the menace of skate board. There were pictures of kids writing on their stomachs and on their butts, narrowly missing cars and pedestrians.
