Aragorn goes through the paths of the dead, which no other man can do. So there's profoundly Christian imagery of sacrifice there. And our wiser self, when we read that story, we can't help saying yes to it. We see ourselves. Well, or no. Right. Because we can reject it. But there's no being ambivalent about it. There's no being not gripped by it.
