The History of the Abbey of St. Victor

The Abbey of St. Victor was founded in 1108 by William of Champau, whose realist theory of universals was twice refuted by Peter Abelard. The list of scholars who were associated with St. Victor is effectively a roll call of the major intellectuals of the time. Hugh produced a number of other exegetical, contemplative, and educational works; his ditta scallicon means something like educational handbook.
