The Importance of Expectation

John the Baptist often has him like one, looking exceedingly tired, two looking crazed. And then he's got like sticks in his hair. Not only was he a profound ascetic, but he was also unkempt. So there's a certain way in which John and his disciples appeared to have a more rigorous asceticism than Christ. Jesus isn't fasting, but when he talks about fasting, he admits of it as a possibility for Christians in the future.
