Federation rather than overall central standardization is the way to go. I think federation allows autonomy with communication and interoperability. It doesn't mandate that everybody speak the same language, but you have points of translation or mediation between them. That's really how you unlock the power of the different solutions in different domains. And it's what's behind the internet. These are federated autonomous systems that we access throughout the day.
