When to Use an Awake Tracheostomy?
Otolaryngologist: Percutaneous tracheostomies have gained a lot of favor because they are less expensive. They don't require transport of what are oftentimes critically ill patients and can avoid the difficulty of obtaining OAR time, which is usually in high demand. In certain cases, some people who have bad intubation trauma to their vocal folds may also benefit from an awake tracheostomy.
