Inflation over the last 100 years had inflated the electrate very considerably. By 16 26, about 20 % of elections were now contested. Everyone hated a contested election - except the electorate who often got to be bribed with a hooly as a result. Lastly, in this utterly random list, there were a few offices and wrinkles which had grown up,. particularly the speaker of the house.
