Nixon, He's A, You Know, a Protean Figure.
Nixon predates the official birth of american conservatism. He was able to tap into some of the law and order stuff, while also kind of not running as an anti government idea long. The right was suspicious of him, even as they tried to coopt him. It is incredibly important that we acknowledge that watergate happensri in a different way from Nixonian overreach. For movement conservatives, it's not so much the excesses of nixon in his imperial presidency but how he helped unseat a president when press and liberals get together.
