The Fear of Making a Movie
As a child, I wanted to be an ape. The idea of how much silent storytelling was possible within it is very instinctual. And at the time, my son was maybe eight months a year, he was just starting to express himself and some early words were coming. It's one of those things where when you become a father, you don't really think about like, we're animals. There was something about seeing my child and the way he was expressing himself, the words would come with a kind of primal urgency that was like, oh, he's such a little animal. This film represents that one moment of time where it could have become Planet of the Humans and the Apes
