The Importance of Small Democracy
Andrew Jackson's war against the second bank of the United States inspired tremendous anger on the part of working men in the north and then the farmers in the south and the west. Afterward, you had like this mess of wildcat banking and regional and small banks that we still have in the United States. The idea finds expression again after another calamity, a much worse one of the of the depression in in the figure of FDR. And you get to a more serious set of reforms in the course of the 20th century. So I think that that kind of history of economic democracy in all those ideas in the US, like finding that particularly American story is very important.
