The Process of Glyceronogenesis on a Mixed Diet

The biochemistry textbook that I was using as my primary source 10 years ago said that you needed carbohydrate for that reason to store fat. On a mixed diet, the glycerol backbone needed for triglyceride storage primarily comes from carbohydrate. If carbohydrate is limiting, then you synthesize glycerol through glyceronogenesis. In animal models, you can increase glycerol availability on an abesogenic high fat diet by increasing pepcK expression. And that protects against metabolic dysfunction. Whereas you can decrease pepCK expression, and that will exacerbate metabolic dysfunction.
