According to the North American Vexilological Society's 2006 edict, Good Flag Bad Flag, there are a few key principles to designing a good flag. One of them is keep it simple so that a child can draw it from memory or an adult who's bad at drawing. Number four, no lettering or seal. Never use writing of any kind or an organization seal. Number five, be distinctive or be related.
