You're not supposed to like these characters I think that's unambiguous in the movie. The film is very critical of the two of them even at the very end they're buffoonish. Francis McDormand initially were it I mean who wouldn't be invested in someone whose daughter has been killed and they sure yeah find the killer but but in the end she's pretty just I mean not pretty she's.
