A new paper in movement disorders showed that people with Parkinson's and concurrent or co-morbid diabetes had faster disease progression. That is a strong further motivation to use anti-glychemic drugs as a potential way to modify disease progression in Parkinson's. To my mind, one of the most promising compounds around is exanatide. There have been a number of case reports where people following a COVID infection developed Parkinson's disease shortly thereafter. It could potentially interact with other triggers in our environment jointly lead to Parkinson's.
