Hernand cortez's brazen, bloodless coup was perhaps the most audacious and astonishing takeover in the annals of military history. Cortes now had the emperor on a puppeteers string, and he moved fast to crush any descent. He assembled 15 of the most powerful lords in tinechitlan, including mantezuma's son, and had them burnt alive in a public square. Montezuma finally withered and agreed to go with them.
