Is There a Shift in the Art of Collections?

During the nineteenth century, there's a very considerable shift in he type of art which queen victoria and prince albert were collecting. They basically liked what i think we might now call salon painting. The next for a major step change would be some time around corresponding with the first world war when there's an acknowledgment that the awe inspiring magnificence of royalty sort of isn't going to fly any more.
