In 1988, molecular geneticist Dana Boyd and biologist and artist Joe Davis encoded 35 arbitrary bits into DNA. And that was then decoded and it made the shape of the Germanic rune for the goddess of Earth. But what I first remember hearing about this idea though was actually in 2012 when a team from Harvard encoded an entire book into DNA.
