The Power of the Gospel Stories
Gospel writers were soaked in the Old Testament scriptures. When they told the story of Jesus going to his death they told it lovingly with scriptural illusion and echo all over the place. There is virtually no echo or quote from the Old Testament there are one or two but it's just in a completely different register how so the earliest Christians believed that Jesus was raised in accordance with the scriptures. The stories bear the mark of being the breathless early narratives that people had told when they were still confused on the first day before they'd had time to think back through their traditions.
