Is Block Chain All Hype or Subs?

The debate about whether this is all hype or subs kind of centers around two loose questions. The first question is, can all these block chain base technologies really do anything that currently existing technology can't do? And if they can do some new things, do they, in the process, create more problems in solutions? I think what you're going to see is a big consumer divide opening up between people who are fluent in the world of block chain ad people who are not.
