I was interested in thinkers who understood violence as something that can in here in how we think and speak and know. Like do we live in an inherently violent world? So then when I encountered Jacques Derrida's early essay called violence and metaphysics,. When I found that Mennonite theologians from my own tradition had responded to that, I was pretty thrilled because these are thinkers who are conceiving of violence as something upstream of its exemplary manifestations.
