Revision Is Not Just for Tolstoy

In this process of revising, in a sense, the the story becomes more intelligent and better than the riht. The writer's job is to be clear about what question the story is asking - and make it ask it more aggressively. If you are simply trying to squeeze the falseness out of a sentence, i would say you're automatically, defacto, making the whole story more intelligent. You know, if you have a a sentence that fails to be specific, and you make it more specific, but not too specific, then suddenly the whole thing has come up a notch. And there's that slight feeling everything going up hill a little bit, escalating or ascending.
