Inventors should be able to own some kind of intellectual property, which means an idea or something that could be freely copied. We've navigated this with copyright law and we fixed it with what's called ASCAP. Nobody questions whether an artist should get paid for their music. Same with books and movies and everything else. But you probably don't know anybody besides me whose business card says inventor. So a lot of people have tried to abuse the patent system in America.
