The Great Christmas Present for William
William seems at least in your account Judith to have a really strong sense of destiny. Why did he feel he was so entitled to use a very 21st century world word to become the king of England? But he was entitled, whether Edward had ever made a formal promise whether that had been ratified by the English nobles. And the other thing about William is that as a great Lord, he had to keep rewarding his men he had to be generous. In this sense it was a huge gamble a seaborn invasion of England late in the year but it came off and the men who followed him became a huge appendously rich. Great Christmas present for William if not necessarily for everyone else.
