Is There a Scale?

There's no over a scale or ladder that's appropriately used to rank different kinds of intelligence across very different sorts of animals. I think there are some things that we can look for and that people do look for in trying to make comparisons between us and them. Effective dealing with novelty, i think, is a very important cluster of features that distinguishes some animals from others. People sometimes, in these contexts, think that what's being learnt istat is that humans aren't special, that we're not particularly animals. But at one point we have to think about what makes human that's also a part of the situation.
