The Alternative to the Burning of Coal
This argument may ignore a couple of things. The first is that it assumes no other problems requiring an increase in electricity production suddenly will arise over the next few years as we do decommission fossil fuel power stations. It assume a rather constant amount of use, and that use can be met by gradual replacement of coal with wind, solar and batteries. After all, this is possible. Already, some noises are being made about the chemicals in batteries and in solar panels. So there is that the solution requires minimal disruption, which requires a certain degree of prophecy, presuming we can know what the future holds.
