The Government's 'Devil-Made Care' Approach to Britain's Public Finances
Before the mini-budget, lots of people thought there would be something out of the hat that sort of balanced things a little bit. They also thought there might be some statements about how the government was going to show that its public finances were under control. The whole package together made it seem as if the government just simply didn't care about Britain's public finances. It was just irrelevant to them, and that's why the markets behaved as they did.
