Australia's online safety act introduced in 2021 could see Twitter face a daily fine of up to $475,000 if it doesn't comply. Since Musk takeover in mid-grant, a former Twitter executive has noticed a quote worrying surge of hate online and a significant increase in reports of serious online abuse. The reinstatement of tens of thousands of accounts previously banned under different management has been flagged as a contributing factor to the surge in hate speech. If Twitter fails to respond to the notice within 28 days, it risks a huge fine of 700,000 million dollars. That's $473, 480 US dollars every day.
