J.L. Moreno and Marina Jennings studied segregation at a New York school in the 1930s. They found that black girls were punished more harshly than other students. Their research was published in Sociometry, an influential social science journal. The study led to calls for desegregation of the school but it wasn't implemented until after its publication.
