Alastair's Adversaria

CHAPTER

Jesus and Jonah in the Old Testament

In Matthew 4, Jesus is followed by his disciples into the boat and out into the sea. They are going to a realm associated with the Gentiles as Jonah took a boat to Tarshish. The implicit personification of the sea is important here. It represents the most powerful natural forces that no man contain. In Isaiah 51 verses 9 to 10, awake, awake, put on strength, oh arm of the Lord. Awake as in days of old, the generations of long ago.
