This chapter discusses the different electricity generation systems and markets in the Northeast, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, and Texas. It explains how generators in the Northeast operate in a market system where they bid into a market and are paid to hang around in capacity markets. In contrast, Texas has an energy-only system where prices can be very high during shortages.
