How Do Lists Help Children Write Poems?
Florence has done some work in schools encouraging children to write poetry. How do lists help there? Yes so what we did was to look at animal pictures and I encouraged the students just to write down random associations about the feathers of the birds. And then later to put those lists into a haiku form that's a very short particle form with a certain set of syllables just three lines. So Lists can in a way seem like a sober way of describing a thing just some factual information but actually I think they can be very generative to produce thought to produce feeling to produce poetry.
