I could see a bill of rights for sentient entities being developed maybe pretty soon as these things become more and more like companions. As they develop traits, you know, you have an inner companion or AI companion you interact with,. It adapts itself to you, you adapt to it, it becomes a person like you. So that's a very difficult set of questions. Yeah, the only pathway I can conceive of is if it created some dialogue or images of President Biden saying to his cabinet, it's all fake. That seems like it's going to be a bigger and bigger problem.

He is the author of numerous scientific papers and scholarly books, including Stability of Happiness: Theories and Evidence on Whether Happiness Can Change; Designing the Future of Positive Psychology: Taking Stock and Moving Forward; Current Directions in Psychological Science; and Self-Determination Theory in the Clinic. His new book integrates all this research into a popular trade book Freely Determined: What the New Psychology of the Self Teaches Us About How to Live.
