Carosophus and the Colchians

Greeks marched for three days through the rather hospitable lands of the macronis. Then they came into the more hostile domain of the Colchians, whose territory stretched along the southeastern, eastern and northeastern Black Sea coastline. The Greek generals had ordered their men to deploy their line extremely thin so as to overlap the enemy while keeping a strong reserve. In all, the Greeks were happy,. well fed, and after holding an athletic competition, were well entertained too. After the rituals and frivolities came to an end, the time came to decide on their next courts of action. During a meeting of their officers, the most popular idea bandied about was to acquire some ships and sail
