At Yahoo! it started contributing to Open Source Project, like, Big. And that's how I joined this larger open source community and started working on Parquet. At Twitter, we had Hadoop and we had Vertica. Vertica is the distributed columnar data warehouse with a lower latency than SQL. But at least at the time, it didn't scale as well as Hadoop,. So that's really where the started of thinking, how can we make Hadoop more like Vertica?
