Sho Toku - A Legend of Japan

The absence of firm information beyond a few basics made it very easy to project meaning onto the prints. Shotoku became a legend, not despite how little we know about him, but because of that. The prince's variable nature as buddhist saint, imperial prince and man of the people made him easy for many different kinds of people to attach themselves to. Each of these people helped build sho toku into a legend.
