The Importance of Healing in the Early Church

The concept of healing was just omnipresent in the early church. And so what happens with Calvin is any compromise between thinking of Christ's role as a healer or as a rescuer from the clutches of hell is definitively resolved in favor of the latter. A judgment is the courtroom, and Christ is trying to defend us against the imposition of a penalty. So there is a lot of language in Scripture that does kind of invite that kind of a reading. It certainly seems to me inconsistent with the nature of God.
