The Trauma Story of the Victims of Crime

On order becomes the language through which one speaks about race without speaking about it directly. Civil rights demonstrations, the kinds of quote unquote riots in the streets of cities gets recast as a problem of law and order and criminality rather than as a political movement. When Reagan comes to power, his administration formally backs that movement. It sets up a special committee that's called the tax task force on victims of crime. And so when really flips entirely away from the kind of a gente-responsibility that was constitutive of the original understanding of post Vietnam syndrome.
