The Differential Diagnosis of POTS

The current diagnostic criteria for POTS include a sustained heart rate increase of greater than or equal to 30 beats per minute within 10 minutes of upright posture. Common symptoms are lightheadedness, palpitations, shortness of breath and fatigue. The diagnosis of POTS requires exclusion of alternate causes such as acute hypovolemia,. Other comorbid conditions seen with POTS include Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, Massile activation syndrome, migraines and chronic fatigue syndrome.
