The National Volunteers and the National Rifles
There was a plot to seize Washington in 1861. The Knights also apparently tried to assassinate Abraham Lincoln before he could assume office. In January of 1861, they were drilling in D.C., Virginia, and Maryland as part of companies known as the National Volunteers and the National Rifles.
