How to Apply for a Data Scientist Position?

At my company, we're starting to look for more data scientists. I was always wondering what kind of steps do you guys take to apply for the positions? If you've already got that network, just start asking them directly. You may be responsible for creating a little bit of this yourself. Some dayta data science teams have no idea how someone outside of their group would even get the capabilities to be part of their team. The only way they ever think about growing the team is hiring externally. Don't forget both sides, don't giv up on your dream job.
